The Los Angeles Fire Department addresses Henry Winkler's surprising assertion regarding the origin of the fires
The Los Angeles Fire Department has issued a response following Henry Winkler's startling assertion regarding the origins of the wildfires in California. In the wake of the devastation caused by the Pacific Palisades fire, the 79-year-old actor, known for his role in Happy Days, took to X to share a provocative message attributing the fires to malicious intent. He stated: "THERE IS an ARSONIST here in LA. May you be beaten unrecognizable!!! The pain you have caused!!!" Winkler's remarks quickly gained traction online, with some supporters rallying behind him while others criticized him for inciting fear.
In response to these allegations, an official from the Los Angeles Fire Department spoke to TMZ, clarifying that "there's no way to know at this moment exactly where and how the series of fires started, but an investigation is underway." The fire department's arson squad is tasked with examining each incident, a standard procedure for significant fires, which does not imply that arson has been confirmed, the official added.
Winkler resides in Brentwood, Los Angeles. Fans promptly responded to Winkler's post, with one individual stating, "I have been observing continuously. How can the fires continue to spread over such vast distances? What initiated the Hollywood Hills fire? I am beginning to suspect the involvement of arsonists or terrorists, or perhaps both." Others commented, "You have a point," and "My perception of you has diminished. What benefit does it serve to inflict physical harm? Such actions would be distressing to execute and to witness. However, incarcerating them could yield some positive outcomes."
"Embers carried by the wind can travel over two miles and ignite new fires. While it is feasible, it is unlikely that all incidents are due to arson, particularly given the absence of rain since March 2024 and the presence of 100 mph winds." "Both the initiation of the fires and the response from within the California government are concerning. They may not have ignited the flames, but they have fostered a climate of governmental neglect that has led us to this situation." "Whether it is arson or a terrorist attack, it is implausible for fires to ignite spontaneously, especially when winds are shifting and fires are appearing at such considerable distances. "Firefighters are currently engaged in combating a series of significant wildfires that have resulted in at least five fatalities, devastated communities, and compelled thousands to evacuate. As of Thursday, over 45 square miles and 1,300 structures have been lost in the Los Angeles area due to five wildfires that have erupted across the region, incurring an estimated $48 billion in damages.
