Queen Letizia of Spain visited Queen Sofia in hospital on Thursday evening - as she now enters her third day of surveillance.

Queen Letizia of Spain paid a visit to Queen Sofia in the hospital on Thursday evening, marking the third day of her observation period.

The 51-year-old European royal was accompanied by her husband, King Felipe VI, during their visit to the Ruber International Clinic in Madrid.
Queen Sofia, aged 85, was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday due to a urinary tract infection and remains under medical supervision. The timeline for her discharge is currently uncertain.

Following their hospital visit, King Felipe informed the press that his mother expressed a desire to leave but he was unable to specify when that might occur, as reported by the Spanish publication La Vanguardia.
Later that day, Infanta Elena, Queen Sofia's sister, also visited her, demonstrating the solidarity of the Spanish royal family in supporting their matriarch.
Earlier in the day, Letizia and King Felipe attended the National Innovation and Design Awards in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, where she wore the same elegant pink trouser suit for her hospital visit.

Although Letizia appeared impeccably dressed, she seemed fatigued after a long day of engagements and the emotional strain of the previous 24 hours following Sofia's hospitalization.
Nevertheless, she greeted the cameras with a cheerful wave from the car and appeared to be in good spirits outside the hospital.
This visit underscores the strong relationship she shares with her mother-in-law, who has embraced her since Letizia joined the Spanish royal family in 2014.
King Felipe, 56, has already visited his mother on two occasions, being present at her initial admission on Wednesday.

He was later seen waving from the passenger seat of his Lexus during a second visit that afternoon.
He reassured concerned royal watchers, stating to the media outside the hospital: "She is very well, cheerful, and eager to be discharged and return as soon as possible."

Sofia has held the title of 'queen mother' of Spain since her husband, King Juan Carlos, abdicated.
